Careers in Sport

Through the delivery of our accredited BTEC or NCFE qualifications in Sports Coaching, students wishing to progress into employment within the Sports industry pick up a range of sector specific skills and knowledge. The Sports Vocational curriculum also supports our students in moving into related industries, allowing for a breadth of opportunity for careers progression which is enhanced by the transferable skills embedded within the wider Study Programme curriculum.

Brighter Futures aims to develop these employability skills within students during the academic year with the intention to support them into meaningful, sustained employment once their education is complete.

Why the Sports Industry is a Good Employment Progression Route?

Sport is an excellent choice of career pathway. The sport sector is an important growth sector, contributing £39 billion a year to the UK economy with a very positive outlook for the sector due to an increased national focus on physical fitness. From 2003 to 2017, the sector saw employment growth of 42%, with 129,000 new jobs created.

Sport continues to be a crucial factor in bringing about a shift in our nation’s levels of physical activity. The future of the industry looks bright, particularly due to the increased awareness of the importance of public health and lifestyle considerations, which has been magnified by Covid-19. Every £1 spent on community sport and physical activity generates nearly £4 for England’s economy and society.

We work in line with the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport’s ‘Get Active: A strategy for the future of sport and physical activity’ and Sport England’s ‘Uniting the Movement’ strategy to help build a healthier nation by tackling high levels of inactivity, and by making sure that the sport and physical activity sector thrives for future generations.
