September 28, 2016Brighter Futures not only looks to progress our learners into employment, we also help our learners be prepared for their working life by upskilling their Maths and English. Coral Georgeson joined Brighter Futures having achieved below grade C in her Maths and English GCSEs. As it is a Government aim for all young people to have these skills, Brighter Futures helped Coral to work towards this level. Coral achieved her functional skills in English and Maths with Brighter Futures and completed her work placement. Coral was then successful after interviewing with one of our employers and has been working at The Little Flower Shop for the last year. Coral is now considering taking a flower arranging course that means she will be able to work anywhere in the world.
"Before I joined Brighter Futures I was working in my local Kentucky Fried Chicken. I joined Brighter Futures and I completed retail work experience and up-skilled my Maths and English as I had not achieved C grades at GCSE. I attended my work placement at The Little Flower Shop with my duties including answering the phone, preparing flower boxes and also serving at the counter. From my placement I learnt how to be confident and how to improve my customer service skills. I made a good impression and I am now taking a level 2 apprenticeship in retail at my work placement." - Coral Georgeson The Little Flower Shop
